Breeding Tokays

Breeding is pretty simple with tokays.  They can take care of everything without too much intervention as long as you follow a few guidelines.

Right off the bat, make sure the female is at a healthy age and weight for breeding.  I try to go with a minimum of 18 months old and 70 gram weight.

Once you have her paired up, make sure she has enough calcium.  Dust and gutload all her food really well.  When she's producing eggs it uses a lot of calcium reserves.  Wild caught geckos can be really delicate in this way so be careful.

If you have a pair of geckos you want to keep together permanently that's okay as long as you're aware that you may need to remove the male if he is overbreeding her.   If she is continuously laying eggs it will be a problem.  Also be aware that they will bond and  prefer being with each other over being with you.  Congrats, you're now the third wheel.    They also likely won't breed with anyone else once this happens.

Unlike most reptiles both the male and the female will guard, raise and watch out for the babies.
